Boston and Toronto
September 2002

After a very short period of planning I took off for Boston (via Tokyo) in September 2002.   I was travelling to visit my friend Charles in Boston and Marc and Matt in Toronto.   I had no idea what I was going to see.   This trip really opened my eyes to some changes that had occurred in this part of America since the events of September 11 2001.   I learnt from my friends there that there is now a lot more fear of violence in America.  More Americans now carry guns and there is much more suspicion of visitors to their country.

I had been to Boston in 2000 as a tourist.  This time I stayed with my mate Charles who played tour guide for me.  It was great having my own tour guide to show me around the New England area.  We covered all of Boston and the outlying areas, as well as Provincetown and Maine.   It was great to see it in the fall but it would be beautiful to see it in the wintery snow as well.

I had a great time on my short visit to Toronto.   One of my old mates from Wollongong now lives there so it was a chance to see some of Canada and catch up with Marc.   I had no idea that the Niagra Falls was so close to Toronto.   I also thought it would be in the middle of a national park....  boy was I wrong!   It almost looks like an amusement park built around the river and the falls.

Toronto was a nice city as well.   You'll probably notice from my webcam shots all the clothes I bought from a great Canadian store called "Roots".   I hope I can go back to Canada again sometime and see much more of the country.  I'd especially like to take the train from Vancouver to Toronto.

Niagra Falls..  they weren't as big
as I thought they'd be
