Where abouts am I located?

The Loft is in Melbourne, Australia in a small block of apartments in the centre of the central business district.   I prefer not to give the actual street location.

When is the best time to see you live?

I try to have the webcam running whenever I'm in the loft.  Because I'm new at all of this I feel guilty if I'm sitting doing nothing much at all.  So I tend not to turn it on.  But I'm sure I'll put it on more as the site develops.  The best times to catch me on the cam are in the evenings on weeknights and in the afternoons/evenings on the weekends.   But you have to work out your time against Australian time.   As a guide, my evening time is about 3am in New York and about 8am in London.   Are you really sure you'd want to get out of bed for this???

Are you ever naked on the webcam?

This is the funniest question I seem to get often on email and in the chatroom.  If you haven't seen me naked yet then you're probably not watching often enough.  This is where I live so I won't change what I wear or what I do just because the webcam is on.   However if you do see something that you feel is not appropriate for the viewing audience feel free to email me and tell me so.

Why did you start doing the Melbourne Loft site?

The site started out as a way to learn about building websites and a place to keep all my digital photos I have taken over the past 3 years.   The webcam came about after admiring other webcam sites.  I like the idea of the interactivity with other people around the world on the net.

What are you working on now?

I'm currently working out how to run a radio broadcast over the internet.  I've seen other people do it so it's certainly possible.  Much of it's success will depend on the smoothness of my ADSL connection with my ISP.   Stay tuned!

Will you be bringing guests into the Loft?

Hell yeah!   Summer time is very popular with many people visiting.  I'm sure none of them are camera shy.

Can I pass your photos onto my friends?

I don't mind you keeping photos taken from my site for yourself or to email to your freinds.  But if you are going to put them on a website I'd like to be asked first.  Also, please do not pass around any nude photos you may see.  I'm not a porn actor and would not like viewers to get the wrong idea.   If you do have favourite cam captures of me please send them to me and I might post them in the monthly galleries.

Do you make any money from what you do?

No.  The site is completely free for the moment.   If you know a way I can make a fortune from this site please let me know.  Otherwise I'll be back at the office in the morning.

How does the webcam work?

There is plenty of information on the net about how to set up a webcam site.  I found  http://developers.webcamworld.com/  to be very useful.   I also stole bits and pieces of script and style from other webcam sites that I admire.   I will soon start up a page of resources for people who are thinking of getting into the webcam space.   But I'm happy to answer any questions you may have until then.
The webcam shot is taken and fed via an automatic upload to my web server somewhere in the world.  The server then refreshes the image on my site.  So it may be a matter of seconds between the camera taking the shot and you seeing it in your web browser.  The webcam itself lives on a tripod that follows me around the loft.  What else would you want to look at?

When are you in the chatroom?

I'm usually in the chatroom on Sunday nights  (Australia time).  But I do pop in from time to time to see if there's anyone to chat with.  If you do come into the chatroom please be freindly to the others in the room.  A little bit of politeness will take you a long way.

Do you have ICQ or Messenger?

No.  I do not have any instant messenging programs loaded.   I had them years ago but found them too distracting if I was trying to work. 

Do you answer email?

Yes, yes, yes.   This is a much preferrable way to communicate with me.  I try to answer all email I receive.  But don't forget I could be on the other side of the world to you, so a reply may not arrive to you till the next day.  I don't normally reply to nasty emails.  Fortunately they are very rare.

Where do you hang out in Melbourne?

There are a lot of places I like to hang out in Melbourne.  My favourite area is still St Kilda.  I could easily live there again.   But I like pubs over clubs when it comes to going out at night.  My favourite bars are the Laird in Collingwood and The Prince in St Kilda.   I haven't found a favourite bar in the city yet.
