World Trip 2005
Brussels

Day 01 - ICE Train:  I loved the trip on the ICE train.  At one stage we were zooming through a tunnel at 300km/hr and it didn't seem like it at all.   And best of all... there wasn't too much movement so I was able to work on the site along the way.  I arrived at the Brussels Midi station and caught a taxi to the guesthouse.   The Downtown BXL guesthouse is located in a street full of bars, cafes and odd shops.  I say odd because I have never seen a shop selling just circus equipment.  The square outside my window has street performers working their art every night for the people sitting at the cafe tables.   I didn't do too much on the first day because I was lacking sleep and my throat was still pretty sore.   Oh...  and it must have been about 40 degrees outside...  it was HOT!   People were walking about shirtless and drowning their heads under water taps.

Day 02 - Lost in Belgium:  I will be the first to admit I know nothing about Brussels...  and after day 2 I wont know much more.   I have used the 2 days to relax and chill out in what looks like quite a beautiful city.   I started the day by going in to see a doctor at the hospital because I thought my throat wasn't getting any better.  I went into the waiting room and took a ticket and waited.  Eventually after an hour I got called to the counter.  When I asked to see a doctor I was told that I was in a social security agency.   They were pretty nice about it.   Anyway, my throat is not too bad now so maybe it is getting better at last.
Then after having a walk about the city I decided to check out the Sauna Macho next door to my guesthouse.   They have a gym and a rooftop sun tanning deck....   just what I needed.   I spent a couple of hours there using the gym and then lying in the sun.   What a great vacation day!  I've decided to now mix up touring with days of indulgence.
My greatest fear at the moment is getting my suitcase back down the many flights of narrow wooden stairs in my guesthouse tomorrow.  I have started to throw out some rubbish to make it lighter for the trip.
