Summer Shoots

February 7th, 2010

The weather in Melbourne lately has been absolutely perfect!   We get about 14 hours of daylight now and the days are really warm…  sometimes pretty hot.   I’ve been using the perfect light to do some shooting out on the rooftop.   I’m really happy with the results.   But I still have so much to learn about lighting, white balance and that dreaded Av mode.   I kinda wish I had gone to photography school a few years ago when Jake went along.   But I’m thinking that practice makes perfect and I’m getting plenty of that right now.

Model wears cap from Cotton On, board and pads from Rebel Sport, Phillip’s old GStar jeans and Converse trainers, and model’s own singlet.

Get On My Horse

February 3rd, 2010

Look at my horse…  isn’t it amazing.   While doing this post I think I had this track playing and now I don’t think I will ever get the song out of my head.   I love it.  I’m looking for the other tracks now.

Naked Campers in Australia

January 31st, 2010

I love this idea!   WickedCampers.com.au is have a special promotion at the moment where you can get one free day’s rental if you turn up naked to pick up your campervan.  And they are serious!  You can visit their website to view all the people who have turned up and put in the extra effort to save a day’s rental.  Classic!

The Office Birthday

January 28th, 2010

The guys in the office have bought me a bunch of cakes to celebrate my birthday. I’m so full of cake right now. I tried to start my day with an early gym session but just couldn’t get myself out of bed before 6 today.

Loft Visitors

January 27th, 2010

It’s been so nice having Greg down in Melbourne this week.   He actually has a busier social life in one week when he comes to Melbourne than I have in a whole month.   So far we have eaten out a tonne of times, gone to 3 movies, watched a stack of British made comedies and sunk many G&Ts.   This is always the most popular time for visitors coming to Melbourne.  More arriving next week!

Deep Discount Books

January 27th, 2010

We all love a good bargain.   Down on Elizabeth Street a book store has moved in to the old Strathfield Car Radio Store (near JB Hi Fi)…  okay so I didn’t record the street number.   It’s called Deep Discount books.   It has some real bargains on the ground floor, but it’s upstairs where you can find some dirt cheap books.   All books upstairs are $4.99 or 10 for $10 !    Of course I went for the 10 books and ended up staying longer than I wanted to as I started to look too hard through the masses of books.  My personal favourite is the book called “Hotel Hobbies”…   like how to build a balcony scarecrow.

Worst City Cinema

January 27th, 2010

It constantly surprises me that the Greater Union cinema on Russell Street in the CBD of Melbourne is still open.   It has the same original Greater Union carpet from the early 80’s and many of the seats are twisted or completely broken.   The airconditioning is turned up higher than normal to keep the rank smells in the cinema down.   But hey…  we had free tickets.   We saw Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon in “Invictus”.   It was quite a good story.   I didn’t know most of it.  Not a big surprise there.

Posting from my iPhone

January 27th, 2010

Well this is very exciting. I’m attempting to do a blog post from the Wordpress app on my iPhone today. I’m not sure how successful this will be but let’s see how it goes. If completely successful there should be a photo of me here sitting at my desk.

Rooftop Puberty Blues – Slack Arsed Moles!

January 26th, 2010

As my birthday treat Greg took me out to a “mystery movie” at the Rooftop Cinema on Swanston Street on Sunday night.   I’ve never actually been to this cinema before and it was a lot of fun.   To begin with you can pre-book on the Rooftop Cinema website.   Then you have to climb the stairs to the 7th floor where you enter the rooftop area.   They have those lie back deck chairs all lined out.  The venue is licenced with a bar and also has a BBQ where we had tofu burgers and chips for our dinner.   Luckily we wore hoodies and could rent a thick blanket…  because man it got cold up there!

And the surprise movie was Puberty Blues.  Fantastic!   I had never seen this Aussie made 1981 flick before.   It was a lot of fun because it reminded me a lot of growing up in the 80’s.   I’m sure we’ll be going to the Rooftop Cinema again sometime soon.

Australia Day

January 23rd, 2010

I just spotted this funny ad on TV for the upcoming Australia Day. It’s a national holiday here in Australia and the Government is asking us to be a bit more patriotic this year.Australia Day
