San Francisco… I'm Exhausted!

Oh man this visit to San Francisco has been busy.  I was sad that I only had time for 2 work outs on my 7 day pass to Gold’s Gym.  But the rest of the time was spent wisely meeting friends, shopping and researching possible new projects for life in my 40’s.  And I can say that from meeting certain people I now have more motivation than ever.  Some people are so inspirational.   It really makes you question how you are spending your life.
San Francisco will always be my favourite city in the USA.   I have to keep myself from booking a ticket and returning next month.  Tomorrow I start my trip to New York.

The Sun is Shining in San Francisco – Day 3

And out comes everyone to soak up the sun.   Even these nudists hanging out in front of my guesthouse.  I had to return a bag I had bought at the Sports Basement so Steve kindly drove me back to that side of the city.   Earlier in the morning I had a nice breakfast with the guesthouse manager and then had my first work out at Gold’s Gym.   It’s kind of an old gym with pretty old equipment.   It is also quite expensive compared to others nearby.   By the guys here take their work outs very seriously.
Later in the day I met up with Dan who I had met last time I was here.  We spent the afternoon drinking beers and eating.  It’s been so nice this trip seeing so many people who I would now call friends.   It’s still pretty cold here, but it’s not too cold to get out and about.  Mental note…  Cafe Baghdad has good burgers and Cafe Flore has cheap beer (both on upper Market Street).

San Francisco – Day 2

Who doesn’t love San Francisco?  I took it easy the first day, just seeing friends and relaxing.  But day 2 was quite different.   After a brekky at Orphan Andy’s in the Castro my friend Steve drove me down to the Sports Basement so I could start my shopping.   I finished around 6pm with my last purchase, two pair of trainers at Footlocker.   Macy’s was having a one day sale (and I think Macy’s are always having a sale)  and spent up big!
Eventually I headed back to the guesthouse because I couldn’t carry anymore bags.  Big day.  No shopping tomorrow.

San Francisco Day 1

Just a quick post.  I had a quick and easy ride from Melbourne to Sydney to San Francisco.   I slept for 8 hours of the 13 hours trip over here.   Along the way I saw Pam An’s very funny 2 hour comedy show in London on the Qantas entertainment system.   It was the perfect program to watch on a long haul to the US.  And good on Qantas for showing it considering it is all about making fun of the airline industry.
I am staying at the same guesthouse that Chris and I stayed in last year.  I’m pretty sad that Chris could not come along.   But within 3 hours of being here I had already joined Golds Gym (a 7 day membership pass) and met up with 3 friends.   I have a feeling it’s going to be an interesting week here.   I will post pics soon.

USA in May

It’s just 10 days now until I leave to travel to California and New York again.  And I can’t wait!   It’s not so much about the destination anymore…  I just like going on vacations overseas…  anywhere!    I’m sure I will be beating myself up again once I wake up with 4 hours still to go on one of those long hauls across the Pacific Ocean.    The photo above was taken around this time last year as I waited amongst the masses at LAX for my flight to Melbourne.   This trip will give me 6 days in San Francisco and 6 days in New York.   I hope it is nice and warm by the time I get there.

Easter in San Francisco

I just remembered where I was this time last year.   As I walked up Castro Street on Easter Sunday in San Francisco people were yelling Jesus Christ! at the person I was walking alongside.   I really do love San Francisco…  there are so many bizarre and creative people living there.   There’s always something or someone new to meet whenever I go there.   I’m really looking forward to my visit there in May.

All Booked for the USA!

Well this is very exciting news.   I have been holding off talking about this until all the bookings were actually made.   The last time I tried to book a trip to the US this close to the departure date it all fell apart because I could not get all the bookings I wanted.
I’ve booked to travel to San Francisco 7th May and New York 13th May.   I’m staying at the guesthouses where I stayed on previous trips.   They both have a really nice feel about them.   And since I am travelling alone it’s always nice to meet other travellers which rarely happens in a big hotel.   Both cities are very exciting and I have friends in both places.   It will be my 8th visits to San Francisco and my 5th visit to New York.
Now I’m hoping this huge collage of my previous visits to the US will load okay.  You may have to download it to see the full size.

Travel Plans

It’s time to start booking travels again for this year.   I have already booked and paid for trips to Thailand this week and Argentina in April.   But because of the operation I am missing the trip to Thailand with all my family and the trip to Buenos Aires (pic) has to be changed to later in the year.   And since Buenos Aires has the same weather pattern as Melbourne, it needs to wait until at least September when it warms up over there.   So here’s what I’m thinking.
The options are:   Melbourne – Buenos Aires (BA) – New York – BA – Melbourne
Melbourne – BA – Rio De Janeiro – BA – Melbourne
Melbourne – BA – Mexico City – BA – Melbourne
As you can see I’m looking for a side trip from Buenos Aires.   Another option is Bogota or Caracas.   I would go for a couple of weeks and spend one week in Buenos Aires and one week elsewhere.     Prior to that I am thinking of making another trip across to San Francisco.   I still haven’t tried the clam chowder at Fisherman’s Wharf yet.    So San Francisco possibly in August/September and Buenos Aires in September/October.    Sounds okay?

Travels for 2010

With everything happening in the post above I’m trying to think about happier things…  like when am I going to travel again.   It’s seems that since taking 7 weeks off work last year I have finally ran low on vacation time.  I’m actually thinking about possibly buying more time off from work.  I only get 5 weeks off a year at the moment.  I’d like to have 7 or 9 weeks off.  That would allow me to travel more often.
For this year I have already bought a return flight to Buenos Aires.  I just have to work out when I can take it.   It was meant to travel in April but I am delaying it because of the surgery.   And May is the beginning of their winter, so it will most likely happen around October now.   So that means I should fit in a trip before that…  and why not visit my old favourite…  San Francisco!   I’m thinking about an end of summer thing there would be nice.   Perhaps another trip to the Folsom Street Fair again?   The above shot was taking in SFO in Mel’s Diner last year just moment’s before I met Armistead Maupin eating there.
